From Shadow to Shaman is centered on hundreds of low-fired clay hammers and is accompanied by a single-channel video and an instruction guide that encourages the vis- itor to enact a sequence of physical and vocal actions meant to provide a cathartic release. These autonomous actions are wake-up calls for reinventing mundane objects into tools to express our lives in the moment. A sequence of vocal cries and shouts epitomizes the art- ist’s belief in the ability of one’s voice to bring forth something from deep within one’s body.

We will live forever and ever” is a participatory art
project I did recently in Austria. FDR (Festival de Regionen)and Klang Festival
invited me to create a sound and movement ensemble with participants from the
local disability social service organization. It was a month-long project with
12 sessions of workshops to complete this ensemble, which performed as the
festival's opening performance. It was also my first time working with people
who have Down Syndrome. It was also my first time working with the Down
Syndrome community.

I worked on a participatory sound project titled&#38;nbsp;Empathic
voices together with a group of migrant workers in Singapore who faced the most restrictions during the pandemic.  Revisiting
the dragon kiln, a historical site in Singapore by re-purposing the dragon kiln
as a short-lived sound recording space, exploring its acoustics by activating
the space with vocal experimentation and sound of clay objects. With the human voice
as its main focus, this project embeds vocal emotional expressions of the
prosodic features of speech, as well as vocalisations with no linguistic
content – hums, laughter, wailing,&#38;nbsp;and gibbering.

&#38;nbsp;PERFORMANCE, ISLANDS TIME BASED ART FESTIVAL 2022②


Qianpima is anGie seah, Aya Sekine, Ian Woo, and Wu Jun Han. Qianpima
started life as a band initiated by seah for her performance and sound artwork
‘A Thousand Horses Running in My Head’. Inspired by the use of hypnotic rhythms
and drone sounds, the music made by this improvisational unit intuitively led
them to incorporate elements of song structures as form and direction. These
early experimentations in music were performed at the NTU Center for
Contemporary Art and the Art Science Museum in Singapore. Popular and folk
music elements are often woven with the influences of the blues and dub music.
Imagery is also used as a starting point in song titles to suggest filmic
worlds with fictional environments and characters. Qianpima, derived from the
Chinese character ‘a thousand horses’, is a sonic and emotional rumble
characterized by the unknown direction of oncoming horses as a metaphor for the
sound of improvisation.
