“Emphatic Voices”

sound, socially engaged projects

LISTEN

PROCESS DOCUMENTATION

I worked on a participatory sound project titled Empathic voices together with a group of migrant workers in Singapore who faced the most restrictions during the pandemic. Revisiting the dragon kiln, a historical site in Singapore by re-purposing the dragon kiln as a short-lived sound recording space, exploring its acoustics by activating the space with vocal experimentation and sound of clay objects. With the human voice as its main focus, this project embeds vocal emotional expressions of the prosodic features of speech, as well as vocalisations with no linguistic content – hums, laughter, wailing, and gibbering.
